Remembering Tahira Wasti, one of the finest actresses to grace Pakistan's screen, on her birth anniversary.




Tahira Wasti had such a beautiful, attractive and graceful personality that always gives a distinctive look to every role she did and proved herself a real Queen of showbiz world and was liked everywhere in the world where Urdu dramas are being watched.


She started the journey of her professional career in late 60’s from PTV, famous name in broadcasting and acting in industry Rizwan Wasti who later became her life partner introduced her on PTV. She got popularity from drama serial Jaib Qatra based on short story by Saadat Hassan Manto and then remained on screens for next 2 decades, proved herself as a good actress during time of competition in field.

TV actress Laila Wasti , her daughter, is also following the footprints of her mother. Actress Maria Wasti is Tahira’s niece.

She had become choice of Writers and Producers especially for the real life roles. She was also a suitable choice in cast list for dramas based on history as she had a natural look like imperial and elite class personality. PTV’s classic dramas Afshan, Shama, Garnata, Tipu Sultan, Shaheen, Aakhri Chatan, Jaangloos and Daldal are few examples of Tahira’s successful career. Although most of the roles she had been given were supportive roles but in every role she verified the importance of supportive actor for any victorious play.

After arrival of private TV channels she remained choice of writers and producers as this was seen in famous drama serial Kashkol in 90’s and recently she acted in Dil Diya Dehleez, Maamta and Doraha. Besides acting she started writing plays, it is said that writing was her 1st creative work when in the age of 16 she had written a short story for a Magzine. Tele drama Usski Bivi and Bherya are exemplar. Above and beyond Tahira’s name is entitled in the list of showbiz personalities who spent successful married life . . .


Then she acted in many Pakistani television dramas that gained her a lot of recognition among the public. She was mainly known for portraying 'regal type' female characters on TV. She was mainly active from 1968 to the late 1990s. She died on 11 March 2012 in Karachi, Pakistan.
