Birthday Greetings to one of bollywood’s finest playback singers Kavita Krishnamurthy, who turned 60 years today.
A singer par excellence, Kavita Krishnamurthy has etched her name in the world of music with her melodious voice and soulful singing. Rendering her vocals to the most soul stirring tracks like "Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyun" from Pyar Jhukta Nahin , "Aaj Main Upar" from Khamoshi, "Pyar Hua Chupke Se" from 1942 A Love Story, "Albela Sajan Ayo Re", from 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', to something as peppy as "Mera Piya Ghar Aaya" from the movie Yaaarana, Kavita Krishnamurthy has truly been a veteran in the music industry.
Over the years the only thing that has achieved permanence is her distinctive voice. From perennial favourite Manisha Koirala to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kavita Krishnamurthy has managed to play the voice of some of the leading actresses of their generations.
Born as Sharada Krishnamurthy in a Tamil Iyer family in Delhi in 1958, She began her recording career in 1971. Her first recording for a Bengali film song was a duet with Lata Mangeshkar. Maang Bharo Sajna (1984) was her first Hindi film under the baton of Laxmikant Pyarelal. Her first hit number was the song "Tumse milkar na jaane kyun" from the film Pyar Jhukta Nahin (1985). But the songs which catapulted her to fame were “Hawa-Hawaii” and “Karte hain hum pyar Mr India se” from the hit movie Mr.India (1987). It made the newcomer a household name and she never looked back.
Having collaborated with musicians like Naushad, Khayyam, OP Nayyar, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, R D Burman, Bappi Lahiri, A R Rahman, Anu Malik, Nadeem Shravan, Jatin Lalit, Ismail Durbar, Sanjeev-Darshan and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy, Kavita Krishnamurthy is a musical gem who has bagged accolades for her vocals not just in Hindi films but in other regional languages too.
After her marriage to renowned violinist Dr L Subramaniam, Kavita cut down on playback singing and instead explored other arenas, like performing in live concerts in different corners of the globe or in collaboration with famous western artists in Global Fusion.

Honoured with Padma Shri, Kavita Krishnamurthy has won Filmfare Awards for best playback singing four times in her life.
