Birthday greetings to Amit Kumar who turned 66 years today.
Birthday Greetings to Amit Kumar, Bollywood's one of the finest singers of yesteryear and son of legendary singer Kishore Kumar, who turned 66 years today.
Amit Kumar, a prominent name in the cine music industry, is known for contributing to Indian music since 4 decades. A singer, composer, actor and director, he is all that one can ask for!
Amit Kumar was born on 3rd of July 1952 to the evergreen singer, composer, actor, director Kishore Kumar and singer and actress Ruma Guha Thakurta.
Amit Kumar’s first recorded song, ‘Main Ek Panchhi Matwala Re’, from his father Kishore Kumar’s film Door Ka Rahi (1971) had to be dropped from the movie as it did not fit the situation. The young man was just 19 then. His next few songs suffered the same fate as those films were shelved. But with the song ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’ from Shakti Samanta’s Balika Badhu (1976), Amit Kumar finally had his first hit, thus setting off in the footsteps of his legendary singer father.
Amit Kumar has enthralled the 80's and the early 90's with his soul-stirring romantic hits. He has sung many Bollywood and regional film songs since the 1970s and was more actively singing in Indian films from 1970 to 1994. After the death of R D Burman in 1994, citing lack of good quality music being composed, he withdrew from playback singing and concentrated on live orchestra shows since 1995 and continues to perform worldwide. In addition to singing in Hindi, has also performed in Bengali, Bhojpuri, Oriya, Assamese, Marathi, and Konkani.
"Bade Achche Lagte Hain..."
Sounding very much like a younger version of Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar finally came to the notice of listeners of Hindi film music with this song, "Bade Achche Lagte Hain", penned by Anand Bakshi. Music composer R D Burman, a long-time collaborator with Kishore Kumar, gave Amit his breakthrough number which reached number 26 on the Binaca Geetmala list in 1977. The number was picturized on the film's young stars, Sachin and Rajni Sharma.
