Veteran bollywood actress Rita Bhaduri passes away at 62


It turned out to be a black day for the entertainment industry on Tuesday as veteran actress Rita Bhaduri breathed her last this morning. Again we lost another legendary actress and a beautiful and humble humanbeing. Rest in peace Rita Bhaduri!

Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri, who worked extensively in films and television shows, including the ongoing “Nimki Mukhiya”, died in Mumbai today morning. She was fighting a weak kidney and was on dialysis. “She died at around 1.30 a.m. and her family members took her body from the hospital at around 4 a.m.,” the source told.


With a career spanning over five decades, Rita played important supporting parts in movies like “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa”, “Kya Kehna”, “Dil Vil Pyar Vyar” and “Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon”. She also featured in Gujarati movies. On the TV front, her credits include popular shows like “Hasratein”, “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai”, “Khichdi”, “Ek Nayi Pehchaan”, “Amanat”, “Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka” and “Kumkum”. She was particularly popular for playing roles of a mother or grandmother. In “Nimki Mukhiya”, she was seen as Imarti Devi, the grandmother of the house.



The actress’ funeral rites will be held on Tuesday at 12 noon at the Cremation Ground, Parsi Wada Road, Parshiwada, Chakala, Andheri East.


Here are the some of her top roles in both movies:

1) 'Julie'( 1975): She donned the character of Julie's best friend. Julie (Lakshmi) falls in love with Bhaduri's brother and when the entire world starts cursing Julie of conceiving before marriage, it was Bhaduri who stood as a strong pillar beside her. The famous song 'Yeh Ratien Nayi Purani' is picturized on her.

2) 'Nastik'(1985): Bhaduri played the role of Amitabh Bachchan's sister in the film and the plot of the movie revolved around Big B's search for his long-lost mother and sister, who are presumed to be dead. She played the supporting actress but had a pivotal role in the film.

3) 'Ghar Ho To Aisa'(1990): In the Anil Kapoor and Meenakshi Seshadri starrer, Bhaduri played a negative role of Anil Kapoor's sister who is a dominating wife and makes her husband do all the household chores. 

'Bezubaan' (1982): The film starred  Shashi Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, and Reena Roy in the lead and Rita Bhaduri played the role of Reena Roy's hostel roommate, who helps Reena from not committing suicide as she got pregnant before marriage. She played a major role as a supporting actress in the film.


'Phoolan Devi' (1985): It was a Bengali film and was directed by Ashok Roy. The movie is a real-life story based on the life of Bandit Queen, Phoolan Devi and her journey from an innocent wife to becoming the queen of dacoits. Bhaduri essayed the titular role of Phoolan Devi.
